Realdania, in collaboration with the City of Copenhagen, has invited five preselected teams of consultants to participate in a competition for the design of a cycle and pedestrian bridge across the inner harbor of Copenhagen, immediately north of the Langebro Bridge.
The five teams are as follows. Team 1: Arup. Team 2: Buro Happold Engineering, Wilkinson Eyre Architects, Agency ApS, Speirs + Major LLP, Eadon Consulting Ltd. Team 3: COWI A/S, Dissing+Weitling, Kragh & Berglund. Team 4: EKJ rådgivende ingeniører as, Leuchsenring &Rundquist, Svenska Teknikingenjörer – Sting AB, Vibeke Rønnow Landskab. Team 5: Tractabel Engineering, DFA Dietmar Feichtinger Architectes, Michel Desvigne Paysagiste.
The new bridge is to feature opening spans above the navigation channel and connect the western quayside where Vester Voldgade meets Christians Brygge with the eastern quayside at Langebrogade and the ramparts in the Christianshavn district. The land installations at both ends of the bridge will be integral parts of recreational urban spaces and promenades along the waterfront. The bridge should feature a simple design and light structures suited to the unique surroundings. The ambition behind the new cycle and pedestrian bridge is to create additional urban life and recreational facilities for people in Copenhagen as well as an additional link across the harbour basin. In a more general perspective the bridge is part of an ambition to develop Copenhagen as a green and sustainable waterfront city and the world’s best city for cycling.
