Our bridge over Varnan and the city park in Kristinehamn have been nominated for the Swedish Architects Värmland Architecture Prize. SAVA is an architecture prize that is awarded every other year to a project in Värmland. The prize is awarded to a project in the areas of building, interior design, land and landscape design, urban planning and spatial planning. The awarding ceremony takes place mid-January 2022.

We have been chosen, together with Erséus Arkitekter and Degree of Freedom, to participate in a parallel assignment for the design of Västlänken’s Central Station (Mittuppgången) in central Gothenburg.

The station, which will be inaugurated together with Västlänken in December 2026, is placed strategically at the end of the new Hising Bridge (Hisingsbron). The building will become the station’s entry from the north and will serve as the main entrance to Västlänken while working as an efficient link between regional trains, Gothenburgs’s Central Station and the city’s public transport.

A total of four teams have been selected for the assignment out of 28 applicants through a qualification process led by Jernhusen AB with the support of The City of Gothenburg, NCC and Per Bornstein expert architect.

Since the spring 2021, we have been working together with WSP on an assignment aiming to develop solutions for a safer evacuation of passengers in the existing metro’s underground stations.

In addition to improving safety at the stations, it is also important that the safety solutions integrate well with the existing environment of each of the stations and consider the design and art that make our metro world famous.

Our bridge over Varnan in Kristinehamn has been nominated for The European Steel Design Award! The European Steel Design Awards are given by the European Convention for Constructional Steelwork (ECCS) every two years to encourage the creative and outstanding use of steel in architecture.

Words from the jury: ”This origami-style sculpture beautifully contributes to the landscape bridging the river. The very appropriate use of weathering steel and the integrated design accomplish this folded master piece of a footbridge.”
